Wednesday’s Hump Day Update – Part 1

January 15, 2020

It has been a positive and exciting 5 days of returning calls, emails and meeting with New Electric employees. It’s been great getting to know you better.

So let’s get right into this by sharing a few of the questions raised and setting the record straight.

Planes, Trains and Company Trucks

IBEW contractors all across Ontario have fleets of trucks that are assigned to members in their employee. It comes down to the company’s policy, but in our experience the majority of the vehicles go home with the employees each night.

Our IBEW contractors are free to issue vehicles, gas cards, credit cards, cellphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, shop keys, company uniforms and more. Our contractors have great relationships with our members.

Work & Play

It’s true that local branches of the IBEW across Ontario have activities for their members. However, a great many of our IBEW contractors host their own events for employees, and employee’s families as well.

Several times a year, some have steak and sausage BBQ’s back at the shop on a Friday afternoon to provide communications updates, trade and safety talks, and introduce new employees. Others organize job site lunches, employee dinners, family picnics, Christmas banquet and dance.

Gone Fishing

Why would this have to change? Go fishing!

Keep those questions coming and watch for an update about crediting apprentice hours coming soon…
